Announcing Two New MetroFi Headphones from Ultimate Ears by Logitech

Bonjour, I'm Philippe Depallens and I am the head of Logitech's Ultimate Ears product group, which is located in the OC (yeah, baby!), also known as Orange County, California. I've been with Logitech for more than 16 years (what can I say, I love gadgets). I like to ski, play tennis and play Rock Band with my kids (trying to stay hip…).

When I joined the Ultimate Ears team last September (following Logitech's acquisition of the company), I received a pair of custom in-ear monitors – the Custom UE 11 Pro – that many musicians and professionals use on stage. I tried them for the first time on my flight back to the Bay Area (I am currently commuting back and forth between the OC and the Bay). During that short trip, I discovered what incredible sound they delivered. In fact, I was so immersed in listening to my playlist that I ended up being reprimanded by the flight attendant for not switching off my iPod during landing (oh boy, she was not happy with me).

Since not everyone can afford a pair of custom in-ear monitors, we've just announced two additions to our MetroFi line of noise-isolating earphones – the new MetroFi 170 and the MetroFi 220. These earphones allow you to truly immerse yourself in your music so you can really get into the zone. Besides the excellent sound quality, the MetroFi 170 and MetroFi 220 stay in my ears and feel good (the team added different sizes of ear cushions to make sure you can find one that fits your ears). You'll find that these earphones are a great upgrade from the uncomfortable and tinny ear buds that came with your MP3 player.

So now you can rediscover your music collection with sounds you've never heard before, experiencing each song the way it was meant to be heard. Just remember to turn off your MP3 player before landing. ;o)

One of our readers, Alex wanted to replace his default live search with ask or Google. What you have by default depends on where you downloaded your fox from.

And you can also add one thats not on the list by following these directions. But it takes some geeky know how to get it working. You can't mess anything up but frustration can seriously make you pull your hair out of your head.

Don't you just hate those Four Oh Four errors? This page can not be displayed…

We wont judge you. Whether it be porn or work related. For good or evil…

The page used to be there. But where did it go? Who cares - We are going to show you how to bring it back!

After being overwhelmed with emails, from amazed readers, after we resurrected the website about the torrent tracker infiltration by a security company. Reader after reader sent us emails inquiring about this magic cache and how to access it.

See the black circle around the word cached? Yup that is your time machine. You will get a snapshot of the page the last time Google crawled it.

Hit this trick/feature up after take down notices or traffic prevents you from seeing what you want to see… Get rid of that a big 404.

Its not always 100 percent functional but it will get you the guts of the site.

How long before Google gets those take down notices for their cache?

When did I take that picture? Mark your printed Photos

via Ask The Admin by JeffAlexander on 1/5/09

Ever wonder when you took that digital picture you had printed?

I haven't printed any digital photos through my local photo lab in quite a while and my wife recently asked me to get some of our Christmas pictures printed. I pulled out the last batch I had printed and noticed that the file names were printed on the back of my prints by the photo lab. That gave me a good reference point on what I had printed last time and gave me a great idea. If I renamed the pictures to contain the date and time they were taken when I had the next batch printed, I would be able to flip it over and see the date and time I took that picture.

When most digital cameras take a picture it will store the camera model, date/time taken, as well as lots of other stuff in the picture itself in what is called the EXIF data. Now I needed to find a program to read that information.

So I pulled out my favorite file renaming application, ReNamer (http://den4b.com), to see if it happend to know about EXIF and lucky me, it did. So I set up it up with a rule to rename my photo's. The steps I used are available after the jump.

  1. Drag the photo's to the 'Drag your files here' section of ReNamer
  2. Click on 'Add' to add a rule, Highlight 'Insert', and click 'Insert Meta Tag'
  3. Choose 'EXIF_Date' and click the 'Insert' button. I like to put an underscore (_) after the date. So mine looks like ':EXIF_Date:_'. Click the 'Add Rule' to add the rule.
  4. Slect EXIF_Date

  5. You can now click preview to see what the renamed file will looklike. So far your files will be renamed to look like this 2009-01-04 17.23.19_IMG_0214.jpg I like to remove both the periods (.) in the time and the space between the date and time. So I added 1 more rule.
  6. Click the 'Add' to add the next rule. Highlight 'Replace'
  7. Type a space for the find and then click the plus (+) button. Then add a period (.) after the *|* so it looks like ' *|*.'
  8. Then add an underscore '_' before and after the *|* for the replace so that it looks like '_*|*_'. I also selected 'all occurrences' and skip extension. Then click the 'Add Rule'. This will remove the space between the date and time and replace the periods with an underscore.
  9. Rename . and space to Underscore

  10. Now click the 'Preview' button to check out the file names after the rename. If all looks good your ready to Rename.
  11. If you plan to use the rules again you can choose the 'Preset' menu and 'Save As' to save the preset to use next time.

Now this is only useful if your photo lab prints the filename on the back. I have used several different places over the years to print my photos and looking back through them they all appear to have the filename on the back so either I'm lucky or this is common practice. Add a comment if your lab doesn't do this.

Now the next time you are looking at your printed photo's and wonder when you took it you can just flip it over and see the date and time of the picture.

¡Hola 2009!
